Elevation profile
The story
From the bridge over the Amblève in Stavelot, the Stockeu shoots skywards without any run-up. For about a kilometre it averages twelve and a half percent – and that is an average, so some stretches are steeper still. It is one of the steepest climbs of the oldest classic, and the middle act of the dreaded trio of Wanne, Stockeu and Haute-Levée. At the top, where the race turns off, stands a monument to a five-time winner of that classic. Keep going and the hill climbs on for over a kilometre more towards Hénumont. For every Ardennes lover who knows one kilometre can be plenty.
