Elevation profile
The story
Cross the cattle grid and the A4069 turns into something special. Between Llangadog and Brynamman it climbs over the open moorland of Y Mynydd Du, the westernmost range of the Brecon Beacons National Park, to Bwlch Mynydd Du at nearly 500 metres. Sheep and ponies roam free, so the bends are not the only thing to watch. Just below the top sits a wide hairpin, usually striped with long tyre marks. From the Brynamman side the climb averages 5.7 per cent for more than five kilometres, with views reaching far across the valleys. For anyone who knows there is far more to Wales than rain.
