Elevation profile
The story
High above the medieval towers of Ascoli Piceno lies the Colle San Marco plateau, where this race begins. In just over 5 km the SP 76 climbs through four hairpins at an average of 7.55 %, from 705 to 1085 m, to finish just below the hamlet of San Giacomo on the border between Marche and Abruzzo. The hill climb has been held every year since 1962; the early courses started in the city, and the start moved up to the plateau in 1997. European championship status came in 1976, and the race was back on that calendar in 2026. For anyone who prefers to explore Italy uphill.
