Elevation profile
The story
The Gaisberg road opened on 16 May 1929 as the first road in Austria built purely for tourism, and on 8 September that same year it hosted its first hill climb with an international field. The post-war course shown here runs 8.652 km from Guggenthal to just below the summit car park, climbing 672 m on Salzburg's own mountain. In most years from 1957 to 1969 it was a round of the European championship, and the last race was held in 1969. Historic cars still climb the road today in a regularity event. A poster for every motorsport fan with a soft spot for Salzburg and its skyline.
