The story
Passo Fedaia from Caprile saves its sting for the end. The opening kilometres climb steadily up the valley on the tunnel road, as the Sottoguda gorge has been closed since the 2018 storm. Above Malga Ciapela everything changes: a dead-straight ramp of about three kilometres at roughly twelve percent, where you can see the road stretching ahead long before you reach the end of it. At 2057 metres you finally roll along Lago di Fedaia, beneath the glacier of the Marmolada, the highest peak in the Dolomites. Grand-tour stages finished here in 2008 and 2022. For anyone who likes their pain straight and honest.
