The story
Teide is not so much a climb as a day out. From Los Cristianos on the coast you ride uphill for around fifty kilometres, at about five percent: through Arona, through the mountain village of Vilaflor at over 1400 metres, on to Boca de Tauce and the lunar caldera of Las Cañadas in a UNESCO-listed national park. Beaches and palms give way to pine forest, lava fields and thin air. The road tops out above 2300 metres, at the foot of the volcano – at 3718 metres the highest peak in Spain. Pro teams come here for altitude camps. For riders who love long days and big horizons.
