The story
Since 1978 most traffic has slipped underneath, through a 14-kilometre road tunnel, which leaves the old road over the Arlberg Pass to those who choose it. From St. Anton am Arlberg you climb to 1,793 metres, then drop past Langen to Klösterle: 18 kilometres with gradients of up to 10 percent. The pass marks the border between Tyrol and Vorarlberg and opens the door to the ski areas of St. Anton, Lech and Zürs. It stays open all year, apart from brief closures when avalanches threaten, and trailers are banned. For the wall of someone who always takes the long way round, and is proud of it.
