    The story

Long before the oval at Daytona existed, racers chased speed on the hard-packed sand of the Florida beach. In 1959 the action moved inland to this 2.5-mile circuit, where the turns are banked at a dizzying 31 degrees, so steep that walking up them feels like climbing a wall. Stock cars run nose to tail in roaring packs, while each winter endurance racers lap it around the clock. A lake sits in the infield. Hang it up and feel the Florida sun and the rumble of a packed grandstand.
