The story

Between the wooded Sintra hills and the Atlantic beaches of Cascais, Estoril opened in 1972 on high ground just inland from the coast. Its 4.182-kilometre lap starts with a long main straight where sea breezes tug at the cars, then twists through tight hairpins and a slow, climbing section before a long final curve sweeps back onto the straight. From the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s, the Grand Prix came here every year. Picture it above your desk, carrying a hint of salt air and Portuguese sunshine.
