    The story

At the foot of Mount Fuji, in the green highlands of Shizuoka, this circuit opened in 1966 with the great volcano watching over the paddock. The 4.563-kilometre lap is defined by one of the longest straights in racing, almost a kilometre and a half, ending in heavy braking for the first corner. A twisting final sector then climbs back uphill. In 1976 a rain-soaked season finale here settled a world title. Hang it on your wall and you can almost see the mountain rising behind the straight.
