The story
Few roads have a name this grand, and fewer live up to it. Going-to-the-Sun Road crosses Glacier National Park from West Glacier, running along the shore of Lake McDonald before climbing across sheer rock walls to Logan Pass, where it crosses the Continental Divide at 6,646 feet. On the way you pass through two tunnels and beside waterfalls that seem to pour straight out of the cliff. To the east it descends to St. Mary Lake. Dedicated in 1933, it has been a National Historic Landmark since 1997, and it is usually fully open only from early July. For anyone who wants mountains and lakes in a single drive.
