The story
Think the Jura is all gentle hills? The Grand Colombier begs to differ. From Culoz it is more than seventeen kilometres to a summit around 1,500 metres, on a shifting gradient that kicks up to 14 per cent. In 2012 it became the first Jura climb rated hors catégorie by the biggest race in cycling, and in 2020 and 2023 stages finished at the top. The view takes in the Rhône, the Lac du Bourget and, on clear days, Mont Blanc. Ride several of its four sides in one day and you become a 'Fêlé du Grand Colombier'. For riders who know the Alps and want something new.
