Elevation profile
The story
Between 1922 and 1934 the Klausen was raced ten times, from the village of Linthal in Glarus to the top of the pass at 1948 m. It was a monster of a course: 21.5 km on a narrow gravel road, 1237 m of climbing, 136 curves, 57 of them hairpins, and a flat-out dash across the Urnerboden high pasture on the way. Tens of thousands of spectators lined the road. After 1934 the competitive racing stopped, although historic-vehicle meetings re-enacted the climb between 1993 and 2013. A poster for anyone drawn to the pioneering days of mountain racing, when every ascent was an adventure.
