The story
High on the Highveld between Johannesburg and Pretoria, Kyalami sits around 1,500 metres above sea level, where thin air leaves engines gasping. Its name is usually translated from Zulu as 'my home'. Opened in 1961, the circuit hosted the Grand Prix through much of the 1970s and early 1980s and has since been rebuilt into today's 4.529-kilometre layout. The lap rolls over grassy hills, starting with a fast downhill run into Crowthorne. Hang it as a slice of African racing heritage that is still very much alive.
