The story

In the dry, golden hills above Monterey, a short drive from the Pacific, Laguna Seca lives up to its Spanish name: dry lagoon. Opened in 1957, the 3.602-kilometre anticlockwise lap climbs towards a blind crest, then tips over into the Corkscrew, a left-right that drops several storeys in a heartbeat. Drivers turn in aiming at a tree on the horizon and trust the track to be there. Sea fog and sunshine take turns over the hills. Hang it wherever you need a daily reminder to commit.
