The route

The story

In 1955 Monza gained a spectacular addition: an oval of more than four kilometres with two concrete banked curves rising to an eighty per cent slope. On the Sopraelevata Nord and Sud, speeds were reached that were unheard of at the time, and even American oval racers came to compete. The oval was so hard on cars and people that no races were held on it after 1969. The banked curves still stand hidden among the trees of the park. This map shows the oval in full glory, with today's circuit as a faint line beside it.
