The story
Hill climbs belong in the Alps, or so you might think. Germany's northernmost one runs up the Uphöfener Berg near Hilter, in the Teutoburg Forest about 10 km south of Osnabrück. The course is just 2.03 km long, climbs 73 m and has barely changed since the first race in 1968; over so short a distance, every tenth of a second counts. In 2025 it became a round of the European championship for the first time, and in 2026 it hosted Germany's first round of the European historic championship. Up to 30,000 visitors come to watch. For the northern fan who doesn't need mountains to love hill climbing.
