    The story

In the desert of southern Bahrain, the circuit at Sakhir rises like an oasis of tarmac amid sand and rock. Opened in 2004, it was the first Middle Eastern venue to host the Grand Prix. The clockwise lap is classic stop-and-go: long straights ending in brutal braking zones, with a flowing run of fast bends in the middle. Blowing sand can change the grip from lap to lap. Under floodlights the track glows against the night sky, and on a dark wall it shines just as brightly.
