The story
From the viewpoint at the top it looks like a child's scribble, as if someone simply could not stop drawing. The SC-390 stacks bend upon bend up the Serra Geral escarpment, 284 of them by the commonly quoted count, from Lauro Müller at about 200 metres to the plateau rim at more than 1,400 metres. The higher you go, the deeper the green valley falls away beneath you, and on clear days you can even see the Atlantic, about 100 kilometres away. The limit on the climb is 40 km/h, and up on the plateau it can snow in winter. For the wall of anyone who collects hairpins.
