The story
From Laruns in the Vallée d'Ossau you climb past the spa town of Eaux-Bonnes and the ski village of Gourette to the Col d'Aubisque at 1,709 metres, with ramps of up to 14 per cent. Then comes the best part: a narrow corniche road clinging like a ledge to the walls of the Cirque du Litor, with two short tunnels and a dizzying drop beside you. It leads to the Col du Soulor, then down to Argelès-Gazost. Napoleon III had the road built in the 1860s for spa visitors. Cyclists know it from the big cycling races. For lovers of wide horizons and deep ravines.
