The story
Sa Calobra is not a pass but a descent with a destination. Near Escorca you leave the main road through the Serra de Tramuntana, climb to the Coll dels Reis at 682 metres, and the whole route lies below you: a ribbon twisting between grey limestone crags down to the sea. Along the way it curls through the famous Nus de sa Corbata, the 'tie knot', a 270-degree bend that loops beneath itself. Engineer Antonio Parietti designed the road, which opened in the early 1930s. At the bottom waits a small cove, and the only way back is up. For lovers of Mallorca's wild side.
