    The story

Outside race weekends, Mount Panorama is a public road: locals drive it at a sedate sixty, past driveways and paddocks above Bathurst, New South Wales. Then the road closes. The lap climbs Mountain Straight, teeters along the ridge at Skyline and plunges through The Esses and The Dipper, before Conrod Straight unleashes the fastest run and The Chase reins it back in. Racing here dates from 1938, and the 1000-kilometre race for touring cars turned the mountain into folklore. Every glance at your wall replays that drop.
