    The story

Around the shimmering lake of Albert Park, near central Melbourne, ordinary park roads become a racetrack once a year. Racing first came here in 1953; since the Grand Prix arrived in the 1990s, the season has often opened here against the city skyline. The clockwise lap is quick and flowing: fast sweeps along the water, a hard stop after the main straight and a rhythmic run of bends across the lake. Picture it above the couch, ready for a new season's first lights.
