Elevation profile
The story
This climb was first raced on 6 August 1961, to mark a hundred years of Italian unification, and it counted towards the European mountain trophy from that very first edition. From Cesana Torinese the SP 23 rises 10.4 km and about 680 m, through two hairpins above the village and on past Champlas du Col, to finish just below the Colle del Sestriere at 2035 m. Racing stopped after 1992, when the road subsided near Champlas du Col. Only after the road had been rebuilt did the hill climb return, now for historic cars. For lovers of classic machinery at high altitude and of the western Alps.
