Elevation profile
The story
Long before the cyclists made it famous, the Ventoux belonged to racing cars: the first hill climb up the mountain was run on 16 September 1902, from Bédoin all the way to the summit observatory. From 1957 to 1973 that long climb was a round of the European championship every year. When racing returned in 1988, the course was cut down to this 10.05 km section, starting at the hamlet of Les Bruns just below the Saint-Estève hairpin and climbing 899 m through the forest to the Chalet Reynard at 1428 m. For the fan who hears the Giant of Provence in engine notes, not pedal strokes.
