The story
The last stage of a rally carries its own pressure, and for three years running, 2018 to 2020, this was it: the closing power stage of the winter rally in the Alps, with bonus points for the fastest. It starts high at La Cabanette below Peïra-Cava and unwinds down the serpentine D 21 to the Col de l'Orme. From there a narrower road rolls on via the Col de l'Ablé to the finish on the 1,002-metre Col de Braus, between L'Escarène and Sospel. Some 13.6 kilometres of tarmac, mostly downhill and never forgiving. For the fan who loves a last-gasp finale.
