The story
Thirty-six kilometres of the D3, and two very different halves. Out of Sisteron the road is wide and fast as it heads through Saint-Geniez; then it narrows and twists over the 1,304-metre Col de Fontbelle before dropping towards Thoard. The real trap is a shaded stretch of about five kilometres beneath the mountain and the trees, almost always snowy and icy even when everything else is dry, which turns tyre choice into a gamble. A regular on the winter rally in the Alps until 2002, it returned in 2013 and was run in reverse, at night, in 2018. For the fan who still argues about which tyres to fit.
