The story
Condors circle over the ridge as the cars set off from El Cóndor, high on the Altas Cumbres above 2,000 metres. The first kilometres cross a rocky, almost lunar landscape; then the old gravel mountain road between the Punilla and Traslasierra valleys plunges down towards Copina, past the historic suspension bridges that gave it its name. In its traditional direction, the 16.3-kilometre stage is downhill almost all the way, with barely 20 metres of climbing. The crowds are so big that vehicle access closes the night before. For any fan who has chased the Argentine round through the dust of Córdoba.
