The story
Marine Drive was never meant for rallying. Completed in 1878 as a one-way toll road around the limestone headland of the Great Orme, it runs along cliff edges with steep drops to the sea. That made for a spectacular stage on the British round of the world championship: safety divers waited in a boat in case a car went into the water, and in 2019 rough seas cancelled the stage altogether. In 2018 the route went further, leaving the headland for Llandudno's streets, along Gloddaeth Street, over a jump and on to a flying finish on the seafront Promenade. For anyone with a soft spot for North Wales.
