The story
Forget mountain passes: around Ypres the difficulty lies in the detail. Zillebeke covers 15 kilometres of farm lanes south-east of the town, in the same corner of West Flanders as the long-running Hollebeke stage, one of the oldest of a rally first held here in 1965. Expect narrow roads, one junction after another and a surface that keeps changing under the tyres. The highlight of the map is a full lap round a teardrop-shaped junction island. With only about 130 metres of climbing it is nearly flat, yet the ditches beside the lanes punish every mistake. For anyone who has watched the Flemish rally from a farm gate.
