The story
Davos has barely faded from the mirror when the Flüela Pass starts to climb, at up to 12 percent. The trees fall behind, the landscape turns stony and bare, and at 2,383 metres two mountain lakes lie right beside the road: the Schottensee and the Schwarzsee, next to the hospice on the summit. Then the road unwinds more gently down to Susch in the Lower Engadine, 26 kilometres in all. In winter it usually closes for a few months, so summer and early autumn are its time. For lovers of high, wild places, in the living room or the bedroom.
