The story

The start is almost at sea level, 20 m up above the port of Pasaia; 5.466 km later the finish sits at 380 m on the Jaizkibel ridge, high above the Bay of Biscay. The GI-3440 climbs at an average of 6.6 %, with pitches of 11 %. Racing began here in 1967, and from 1991 to 2000 the climb was a round of the European championship. Then came a twelve-year silence, with no races from 2001 until racing returned in 2013. Few hill climbs offer corners with a sea view. For the fan who knows the Basque coast by its bends rather than its beaches.
