The story

Set among the low hills of the Algarve, not far from the beaches, Portimão is a rollercoaster made of tarmac. Opened in 2008, its 4.653-kilometre lap rises and falls constantly, with blind crests that hide the braking points and dips that leave your stomach behind. The long, sweeping final corner drops towards the main straight, daring drivers to stay committed. In 2020 the circuit welcomed the Grand Prix for the first time. On the wall it looks calm; anyone who has watched an onboard lap knows better.
