The story
At 706 metres the Passo San Boldo is no giant, but once seen it is never forgotten. On the Treviso side most of its eighteen hairpins are stacked against a sheer rock face, several of them inside five tunnels blasted into the cliff. Single-lane passages, traffic lights letting each direction through in turn, and bend after bend disappearing into the rock. It is known as the 'road of 100 days': the Austro-Hungarian army built it in 1918 in about three months. To the north the road runs down to Trichiana in the Piave valley. For the study of anyone who loves engineering as much as scenery.
