Elevation profile
The story
Twelve kilometres of corners, from the Horben turn-off to the pass by the cable-car top station at around 1200 m: Schauinsland was described as the longest and most winding hill climb in Germany. The road began life as a timber route and still twists relentlessly up through the Black Forest above Freiburg. As a round of the European championship it drew vast crowds; in the 1960s up to 60,000 people packed the Holzschlägermatte bend alone. Competitive racing has long since stopped, and since around 2000 only classic cars on regularity runs have used the road. For the fan who knows the Black Forest by its corners.
