Elevation profile
The story
The Jaufenpass has two personalities. From Sterzing in the Wipptal the northern ramp is gentle, sweeping up through forest and alpine pasture. At 2,094 metres the mountains of South Tyrol spread out around you, and then the real work begins: the southern side down to St. Leonhard in the Passeier valley is steeper and far twistier, with most of its twenty or so hairpins. It is a road made for one smooth, flowing line. Surprisingly, it stays open all year, although it closes at night in winter. For the living room of anyone who would rather discover South Tyrol over the mountains than along the valleys.
