The story
The Valparola is the lesser-known neighbour of the Falzarego. From La Villa in Alta Badia the road climbs through San Cassiano, leaves the forest behind and comes out on a bare, rocky plateau between the Lagazuoi and the Sasso di Stria. The top sits just below 2,200 metres, and shortly afterwards, just beneath the Falzarego, the road joins the Great Dolomite Road. In about sixteen kilometres you cross from South Tyrol into the Veneto, from green pastures into grey stone. It is also a handy short cut between Alta Badia and Cortina. Ideal for anyone who likes to seek out the back roads.
